If you have two people who are madly in love, then that is all you need for an exceptional couples photoshoot.
These two are exactly that. MADLY in love. I know this mama might have been a little nervous for this shoot, but my goal was to make it more like a date. I wanted them to feel a deep connection for one another. The beautiful couple in the images below are parents to three young kiddos just like I am, so I know very well how hard it is to escape for even a few hours to have alone time.
Planning the shoot
I said wear some things you are most comfortable in, black, chunky sweaters, baggy jeans, or whatever you got. Then, last minute I had an idea and said, “bring a favorite hat for him and some red lipstick for you.” Yes, totally random, but I just remembered how much I love it when my husband wears his favorite hats. Plus, Valentine’s Day was just around the corner, and I knew red lipstick would make her stand out.
Add Music
The session day was so fun. I turned on their favorite music, which is country (mine too) and we started with their feet placed on the wall. I wanted them to get comfortable on the bed without having to look at me. With their faces turned toward each other and away from me they could be in the moment with each other.
If you are curious where I got most of this decor for the studio be sure to check out Consign and Design in Mascoutah Illinois. They have lots of unique finds.
Using Pinterest
I started with a pinterest board from all the wonderful ideas I found on pinterest. We had a blast trying out new ideas, but I did my best to allow every moment to speak to me. Their connection and natural energy is what drove this session to be an incredible one.
Be Silly
My main goal was to keep them moving and having fun, so I also made sure to remain relaxed and incorporate silly prompts. These are not prompts that I normally have saved or already thought about. These are things that come to me during the shoot. For example “lightly walk your fingers up his arm.” You will see that in one of the images and the idea for that just came to me in the moment. Along with “steamroll in the bed.” Steamrolling is just something I use to do with my siblings growing up. We take turns rolling over each other and being silly. I had no idea those prompts would come to me or if they would work, but I went with my gut and they turned out so fun and tasteful.
I would love to hear which ones are your favorites from this session. If you have any questions on how I got a pose then comment below!
