Why I Love Perdido Key for Family Getaways
If you’re like me, planning a beach trip with kids isn’t just about the destination, it’s about making it as easy as possible. I want something relaxing, close to the beach, with enough space for the kids to spread out… and maybe a pool and kitchen, too.
That’s why Perdido Key is one of my favorite hidden gems for family vacations. It’s peaceful, not too crowded, and still close to all the fun things to do on the Gulf Coast. Here are some of the best places I’ve found that make traveling with kids a whole lot easier, and actually enjoyable.

🌴 Purple Parrot Village Resort
This is such a fun spot. Think: tropical vibes, colorful cottages, and an awesome outdoor pool with a waterfall that my kids would stay in all day if I let them.
- The condos come in 1, 2, and 3-bedroom options—perfect for families who need a little more space.
- Full kitchens and laundry (total lifesaver when you’re on a longer trip).
- It’s a gated community and feels safe and laid-back. Bonus: there’s even a Tiki bar for the adults!
📍 Located right off Perdido Key Dr—super close to everything
💬 My take: “Perfect for families who want space and a resort feel without the big crowds.”
🛏️ Cottages on the Green
If you’re looking for something simple and affordable, this place is a little hidden gem.
- While it’s more of a hotel setup, you can find two-bedroom cottage-style units available nearby through local rentals.
- It’s quiet, clean, and near groceries and restaurants.
- Great if you don’t need all the bells and whistles but still want comfort and convenience.
💬 What I loved: “It’s no-frills, but it’s cozy, close to everything, and great for saving a little money.”

🌊 Palacio Condominiums
If you want beachfront views and space to stretch out, this is such a good one.
- Two and three-bedroom condos with full kitchens and huge balconies.
- Two outdoor pools, a hot tub, and tennis courts keep everyone entertained.
- Right on the beach—no need to pack up the car and drive anywhere.
💬 What makes it family-friendly: “Having the beach and a pool just steps away = instant win with kids.”
🌅 Beach Colony Resort
This one is perfect if you’re traveling with a bigger family or just want more room to breathe.
- Spacious two-bedroom units with modern kitchens and dreamy views of the water.
- Pools, a gym, and direct beach access—it’s got everything you need in one place.
- It’s especially nice if you’re sharing with grandparents or friends and want to split a bigger space.
💬 Feels like: “Your own slice of beach paradise without giving up comfort.”
🐚 Perdido Skye
If you’re traveling light or just have a smaller family, this one is a great budget-friendly option right on the beach.
- These are mostly one-bedroom condos, but many come with built-in bunk beds and sleeper sofas.
- Perfect for smaller families or quick getaways when you don’t need a ton of space.
- Balcony views are beautiful, and you’re just steps from the sand.
💬 Perfect for: “Families who want beachfront living without going overboard on space or price.”

A Few Mom Tips for Perdido Key
- Look for two-bedroom condos if you’ve got more than one kid—trust me, the extra space makes a huge difference.
- Bring snacks and groceries! Most of these spots have full kitchens, and being able to cook a few meals saves time and money.
- Pack a beach wagon—it’ll save your back and keep everything in one place.
- Don’t forget the floaties, sunscreen, and baby powder (for getting sand off tiny toes).
Final Thoughts
Perdido Key is such a peaceful, family-friendly spot that really lets you unplug and just enjoy time together. Whether you’re planning your first trip or you’re ready for a new go-to beach spot, these places make it easy to relax and make memories without all the chaos.
If you ever need ideas on what to do while you’re there (besides beach and pool time), I’ve got plenty of local spots I love to recommend too. And if you’re already planning a trip—don’t forget to book early, especially during school breaks!
Also be sure to check out my favorite beach which is Johnson Beach National Seashore (be sure to grab you a pass for the week you are there or see that it’s free for military) it’s where I love to do my photoshoots as well! Less crowded and nice bathrooms, which is also a must with littles.
